Hi,

I had a brand new American Standard 16 SEER Heatpump installed last May, I also had the Inside Air Handler replaced at the same time.
They installed an ACONT802AS32DAA programmable thermostat also.

The Problem I am having is last week it stopped cooling and the Red Auxiliary Heat light came on. Then the Tstat lost all of it display and shut down. An hour or so later it just started working again.
I called the installer and they came out and checked the system out and said they could not find any problem but suspected a faulty tstat. Theyordered one but have not replaced it et.
the system worked fine for a week and then today, same problem but the tstat has not shutdown this time, it is set to cool and is running but hte red light is back on and right now it is 86 degrees in my house.
Do youthink if I unplugged the tstat and took out the batteries it would reset itself??

thanks,

Bill

Ok 1st thing my company & myself had some problems with 802 t-stat's!!! Strange thing it was always with heat pumps. The problem you are having is not 1 that we had but did have several freeze up. You need to call your installer back out to reset it as they will then need to reset the stat for your system so it will no what system it is with, if you just reset it & don't setup the stat right it will be default mode which is not for heat pump!

Once we started having this problems, we replaced the 802 with 803 stats & never had a problem again. So if it was me & the problem keeps happening ask them about replacing with a 803 stat. That should resolve the problem if it is what I am thinking. The 803 stat will gave a added feature for humidity control to boot. I am wondering why they didn't put the 803 on to begin with since you have 16 seer system? I am thinking you you have a variable speed air handler & or furnace with the system? If not then there would be no need for humidity control. Now with that might be reason they put a 802 stat & up to about 1 year ago we had no problems with that stat. Just my 2 cents. Let us no how it turns out.

The techs came out friday and replaced the tstat. It seemed to work for a few hours but at 5 pm I noticed the comressor was not cutting on even tough inside temp was 82 and we had it set to 72 and had the cooling mode on.

I called but they were gone for the weekend.

Soe how by mesing around withthe tstat I manged to get the compressor running and it cooled down through the night but quit again in the AM.

No matter what I do I cant get the compressor to start. If i turn on the ac and run out to the compressor, I actually hearthe click of the signal calling for it to start but it does not start.

Any ideas?

There is something else going on with your system other then the t-stat! Unless it is not wired right! They are gone for the weekend they don't have techs on call? I suggest you wait till a tech can come out, I would ask for senior tech as this has been a ongoing problem.

It sounds like what you are describing is a bad connection on the high voltage to the outdoor unit. All it takes is one side to drop out
