Nowhere near enough information. first thing you can do is get a t-stat that is capable of programming....this can save you $$$$. Zones? How big of an area? always occupied? Lots of questions need to be answered, these are just a couple.

Maybe too much thought is being put into it. Set them both to a setting that provides you with the comfort you desire.
Call a professional in the spring and again in the fall and have your systems evaluated. The most money will be saved through preventive maintenance. Good luck.

Best way to save money on energy bills is to replace the windows in the house....or anything else that allows outside air (unconditioned air) into the house. Even though payback could be longer, the increased comfort level is immediate.

Remember that hot air rises and cold air falls. In the summer, much of the work the upstairs A/C does will find its way downstairs and the opposite in the winter. Keeping both similar temps helps even the run cycles.
