I recently had the motor on the ac unit outside lock up for some unknown reason. The unit is 5 years old. I bought and replaced the fan motor, popped it in, turned it on, blam works fine.

The next day about 24 hours later, I notice the ac isnt working but the inside fan is running, I go down check the indoor fuse box, the fuse is tripped. I trip it back, nothing....

So I take the unit apart check the motor again seems fine, now when i turn the ac on at the thermostat, you can hear the unit come on, then it sort of trips and i can see the piece suck in thats near the capacitor, then it just kind of hums but nothing happens....

I tried the fan spin thing, nothing happened, if you tell me to do anything with a voltage meter I will probaly be confused....Any help will be appreciated

call someone that knows how to use a voltage meter. no DIY.

Well I do have a voltage meter and have used it before, but if I need to test something with it, I need to know exactly what....
If it's something like replacing the capacitor that would be fairly quick and painless I think, but I hate to replace it and then it doesn't help....

The XL1200 uses a 2 speed fan motor. Even high I believe is 825 RPM or so. If you just went down to Grainger and bought a $40 motor, you got the wrong one!

Call a competent tech to get the right motor & capacitor.

Actually originally i had a tech out here, he was the one that said it needed a new motor and only a motor. The motor i got was 170 bucks and I made sure first hand the stats were the same, and the company assured me it was the standard replacement motor for the unit.

Then they could have sold you a bad one. Unfortunately DOA stuff is getting more common :(
