ALC help please

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Evening!

Question for ALC techs.
I posted before about local access into a controller. I have the USB-L link kit and followed it. I also followed advice given to me previously about isolating the controller from the network. I not only disconnected the arcnet comm cable but stopped the IP network from talking to it through the Config page.

The only response I get when I do the Manual Command "rnet here" is a Network number and a Mac address. This is further than I've gotten before, but if I do a Modstat I get a failure message. (something like rnet communication failed after 3 tries...that's approx the message, I left the notes at work).

I started thinking this through a little. It seems to me that in order for my laptop to act as a server talking directly to the controller I would need to already have that controllers and/or routers database file loaded on a SiteBuilder program.

Any ALC guru's out there that can help?

Thanks for your attention and help

- Brian

If you arent familiar with the local access you maybe could be better off by working from their web server?

To connect locally you need to have their jobfile. In the connections page you should have a local access connection with the right speed, comm port and assigned to the network you want to talk with. Connect to the module. Then on NET tree you should select the module you want and try a modstat, if that works you can work with the module. If not you can try the rnet here command.

I do have my computer config'd ok from the sounds of all the helpful replies on this forum.

I just have to get the database for the controller I'm trying to talk to and load it on my SiteBuilder I guess.

Thanks Again!
