We have a customer that is has a 40 ton slanted slab coil that is having a problem

condensate is dripping off of the coil and onto the inside of the unit, instead of flowing down the coil and into the drain pan - I have heard many times that coils can loose some kind of finish that causes this to happens, but I have never had to do much research on this type of problem before. Has anyone else ever ran into such a problem?

Have you cleaned the coil?

not enough airflow?

Can you post up a picture of the inside, usually a clogged condensate drain or pan corrosion is the culprit when an evap starts leaking inside if good airflow has been established

i had the same problem a couple months ago. water would fall straight down and get saturated in the air filters and pool on the economizer then down into the space through the return drop. i sealed the corner that the water was falling down through and replaced the air filters (even though i do a quarterly maintenance) and the problem never seemed to come back. i cleaned the water stains up and have been monitoring the area. haven't had a problem since. i'm pretty sure that wasn't the problem. i would like to hear other people's experiences with this problem

What you are describing is raining. It's usually caused by a dirty coil. I've hod new units do this from the oil in manufacturing. Spray clean with coil cleaner.
The other thing that causes raining is turbulance. It's not usually a problem with package units however. Or is this a big split?

clean the coil good with coil cleaner and compressed air dirt in coil will cause water to drip off early and not reach pan.

I know lennox had issuses with some newer spilts
the ones i was working on were 10 ton, doing exactly what you say,
lennox had a fix that was basicly a set of baffels that slid in and redirected the water back to the pan.
Obviously this was an engineering issuse by lennox.

is it a 2 stage unit? sometimes with a 2 stage unit with what they call a split coil where 1stage is bottom of coil and 2nd stage is top of coil will do that if first stage is not working
