Whats the Best way to get oil sample from Trane R-22 Screw Compressor that has 125 psig refrigerant in it. Vavle off the compressor and reclaim the refrigerant so the oil wont come out 99% foam or is there a better way?

Hold your oil sample bottle at a 50 degree angle or so just like they do at the bar.

I use an empty quart size vacuum pump oil bottle. Fill it with foam. Put the cap on it and shake it down. Repeat until you have enough foam-free oil to fill your sample bottle with as much as you need. After a few tries, you can mark the bottle at the level required.

Referteacher got it. Just take your time and shake the foam down.

1. pump system down
2. isolate compressor
3. recover what is left of R-22
4. pressurize with dry nitro 2-4psi
5. open oil valve @ sump and remove desired amount to make sample
6. evacuate to 500 microns and make sure it holds for 30min.
7. break vac with recovered gas
8. open all valves
9. start compressor.

piece of cake right!

or foam it up! I like to use a large baking pan.

Trane screw compressors don't have an an oil sump like reciprocating and scroll compressors do. Best way to get a sample is to take it right out of the bottom of the oil separator with the machine shut down.

You will get a lot of foam, but if you use a large container and "shake down the foam" like refer said, you'll be able to get a good sample.

I have to argue with all of you guys. I got a pretty good sample of oil the first oil temp. sensor I tried to change. I thought it had a well. I was wearing enough oil to fill at least 10 of those little sample bottles.
