I have 20 years experience in the trade and am currently seeking employment as a refrigeration mechanic.
Over the years, a significant portion of my time has been specifically dedicated to supermarket refrigeration installation, preventive maintenance, and emergency service.
While I would like to remain living in my current area of residence (West Central Wisconsin) – its becoming clear to me the need for a person with my scope of knowledge is not in high demand here. That said, I am willing to relocate if necessary.
My service/maintenance experience includes supermarket rack systems such as; Hill-Phoenix, Hussmann, Tyler, Zero Zone, as well as specially designed racks. In addition I have an extensive background with self contained, single compressor remote systems, ice machines, and commercial HVAC package units.
My installation experience includes restaurants, bars, convenience stores, and supermarkets.....as job foreman in several instances.
If you’re currently looking for a tech and interested in obtaining more detailed information, please feel free to shoot me an email at markettech365@gmail.com.

Are you referring to your former employer? (I noticed a thread you had created on 5/19)

I think I've got the wife talked into possibly relocating to another part of the 48......but Alaska might take some convincing on my part.:grin2:

Sorry to hear things are getting skinny for you. Have really appreciated reading your posts for a long time. Things are pretty grim here in Vegas as well. It's been whispered that a number markets are taking a hard look at how Kroger's in-house program has worked. Just a thought....
Good luck.

You mentioned Source in another thread. They now stretch coast to coast...California to the Carolinas. Worth checking in to. They have a testing system, 1-9, and that will dictate the $ range. I will say, get your money going in.
With Source, if work slows in your area, you are given a chance to travel. Lots of options with Source. No, I'm not an employee.
Phoenix has opprtunities, too. They are not always advertising...walk in, be presentable and talk shop with them and you have a strong chance of getting on. Housing is cheap as fack as well.
Hill Phx(Diehl Equipment)-good
Hussmann/Trane/Climate Solutions-good
Source-OK
Hoffmann-so so
Pro Tec-so so
Kroger in house(Fry's)-OK
Wal Mart in house-ahh
Bashas in house-better than WM

No more supermarket work :(
Smaller shop (roughly 12 techs), concentrating mostly on restaurant and convenience store HVACR work.
Ice machines - lots and lots of ice machines......
Still in WI, so no cross country move.
It will be a change, but it beats the alternative all to hell ;)

I seem to be in a similar business. I think there are ice maker manuals in the ED Forums or links to what you may need. The cooking equipment can be a pain so grab the phone numbers for the factory guys and keep them handy when you run across fryer controls and computerized temp/timers.
Congrats on the new digs.

While this company does work on cooking equipment, the owner has a separate division dedicated entirely to the hot side.......which I must admit, doesn't break my heart.
Thanks for the EF reminder - HTALK will be in close proximity as I get up to speed. ;)
Feels like a 2 ton.......heavy thing has been lifted off my chest. :D

To be honest, I don't know if it's the type of work I'll miss - or the 'image' I hold in my mind of what it means to be a supermarket tech.
I took a lot of pride in what I knew, and felt a certain kinship with the fellow market guys here.
Stupid, I know.......
I'm just hoping H-Talk lets me keep my username :grin2:

So what's your favorite ice machine to work on ?

Favorite? I have no favorite.
Now, which one do I despise the least..........that would have to be Manitowoc. :grin2:
Having said that, it's probably been 5 years since I've been elbow deep in an ice machine. Something tells me I've fallen behind the curve a little bit.

Tell ya what...
I've done markets for every day of my career until recently. A store owner and good buddy of the boss has a couple of restaurants around town. His service company was apparently screwing the pooch pretty badly, so I got the call.
The 'light commercial' sector of this trade deserves a LOT more respect than I eer gave them prior to this. They don't get the supposed 'glory' that racks guys do, but they deserve respect.
Congrats on the new job. I know you'll do fine, even if you aren a market dude anymore... :bsing:

I have worked several ends of this trade, light commercial, industrial ammonia, chillers, stupermarkets, and even a spat of residential. I have learned that it doesn't matter what kind of work that your doing, as long as your doing it right. No one our positions is better than the other. I have seen great rack guys that couldn't fix the a/c at home. Ammonia operators that had to call a vendor to work on walk-in units. Even had to help an ice machine guy that tried to reduct his house in 6" duct from the depot. In the end, all of are just trying to make setpoint, there are many ways of doing that. Al of our jobs are important, and have value to society. All that the customer cares about is that we are competant in what we are working on.
As far as glory..ill give it to the guy that fixes the a/c in my van....

Yes, this is true. Don't run svc calls at the places you like to eat..
You learn that the only safe places are fast food chains...

Tuesday and Wednesday was rough to say the least. By yesterday the mental acuity was starting to return (and I stress 'starting')...........the physical demands of the job will take a while to get used to again.
I've found that certain areas of Milwaukee are a touch on the rough side compared to my little community, but all things considered - it feels great to be back in the field.

LOL, boy could I tell you some stories, but I probably shouldn't scare you too bad. Congrats on the job and welcome to the area.
