We have just got an account to do maintenance on six Lennox TCA package units. THey are about 5 years old. Customer had a misting system installed and had worked long enough to coat the condenser coils with white residue. We demoed the misters and gently rinsed the condenser coils. After drying I gently rubbed my finger over the coil on one and it was like flakes of snow falling out of the coils! I am very concerned that we are going to be liable for $$ if we take over maintenance. Will be discussing with all parties involved, GM, Project Mgr, and customer.

Aluminum Oxide will form and keep the unexposed aluminum beneath from oxidizing, I get. But, the fins of the coil are SO thin, I am thinking it is going to be a disaster.

Anyone else follow upon equipment that have had the misters in place?

These were wired to come on with the Y1 call, that is all the control they had.

Unless you were the installer/seller of the misters you have no responsibility. I would as you have already said inform the owner/manager of the issue and future problems they should be expecting!

Another company has already "buthered" (word of our project manager) a condenser coil in a futile attempt to make the unit work. This one cannot be saved and is pending replacement.

To be clear, the problems will likely be leaks and ruined condneser coils (go ahead, say "DUH"!) :)
