Just wondering if anyone from local 420 in philly had any tips or advice for joining. I started out in residential/light commercial about 7 years ago but have been working on large commercial systems at a local college for about 3 years. would love to work my way up to an A mechanic. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Go online to get the 420 contractor list.
To get in, just let them know you know Marty M.

Thanks I found the contractor website. I put in an app a few weeks ago for the mes program. Think it would be a good idea to contact some of the contractors or just wait for word from the hall.

If you know someone at a company that wants to help you, that would be an advantage.
If you're going to send resumes and/or make cold calls, it can't hurt but is a long shot.

IMHO, the only way in right now is to go with apprenticeship.
I spoke with Frank Belosi a few years ago, and I went to the hall to take Jimmy Duff's test too, but even then there were guys on the street. I'm told there are over 250 guys waiting now who are members, which means (according to a signatory contractor) that a direct hire is nearly impossible.
Good luck.
