Hello. I was wondering what kind of percentage breakdown would you place home heating installs. What I am wondering is out of a hundred homes how many would you think would be a total "hack" job, bad install (sloppy work, grossly over sized, bad ducts, ext.), ok install with problems but will work (works but not efficiently, ect.), and one that is designed and installed to function the best for the home, the system, and the owner. The reason I am asking is I had a new system installed and I spent time and money to get what I think is a nice system. When I recommend the company to others the most important thing people ask about is are they cheap. When I try and explain there is more than just cost in a heating system peoples eyes glaze over and they don't care since their old system worked for their house. Just wondering how a good company can really compete when most people price shop.

Thanks

Most homeowners are clueless about HVAC. That's just one of the problems in the business.

I'd think the worst ones are the ones that are 'piecemealed' installed, because there are just more cooks in the kitchen. Ratios I wouldn't know, but the price shopping, they'll either pay in the future, or they follow the percentage of homeowners who move every five years or so, and it doesn't matter to them as long as it works right now.
