View Full Version : Portable air conditioner to cool server room

I currently have a server room that is located in a basement which has been getting too warm for the servers. I think that the best alternative that my company could afford (cost is an issue) would be to add a portable air conditioner into the room because the area is small enough to be properly cooled by one. However, there are no windows anywhere nearby to vent the portable ac unit. The outer building walls are also concrete block which would make it very difficult to vent the unit outside. So, the way I see it, I only have two alternative. The first is to vent it through the wall into the hall which is not preferred. The other is to vent it into the drop ceiling. Are there any risks in doing so such as heat build up or mold from the evaporated moisture that the unit produces? By the way, the ceiling is not closed in by any walls. It goes thoughout a much larger area. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Where does the ceiling vent to? If nowhere then you are kinda stuck.

I am not sure where the ceiling vents to.

Do it right and vent it outside. Better yet, pay a bit more and get a mini-split unit to cool the room.

Cut out the condenser and install a water cooled one, with a regulateing valve done a few like that over the years.

I also agree with BACnet, a ductless mini-split would be the way too go. Much smaller wall penatration and it would be alot cleaner and take up wall space not floor space. Data center $ per sqft is really high, so saving space is saving money in the long run.
