XBS BNA lightning trouble

We have some Honeywell BNA's on three XL Plus buses and 3 Xl 5000 buses. Is there any thing available to protect the BNA's from lightning on the bus. We recently had a lightning storm that took out comm chips on some xl plus panels and wiped out one of the BNA's.

I worked on a campus on top of a hill with that system.

After enough lightning storms, the copper conductor phone lines between the buildings were all replaced with fiber optic cables.

Now they only lose one building at a time.

At one point 3-4 years ago, Honeywell had a lightning arrestor that you could install on the bus. I had 2 buildings connected by a parking garage that seemed to attract lightning. Put one at each building where the bus entered and haven't lost a chip since. Not sure what the part number is though.

You know they have not installed the fiber and they do not have xlp panels. They have used a lightning device made by Transector. But you are correct that fiber is the way to go. They could go with a RS485 x filer converter.

be sure that the elec power system is well grounded, likewise for the panels involved!

Honeywell has a series of lightning supression devices available. Part numbers are as follows:

14502412-008 Totalizer (high frequency digital inputs)
14502412-011 120 VAC power
14502412-012 C-Bus communication
14502412-013 240 VAC power
14502412-014 Analog inputs

They are all still available from Honeywell.
