I have an FX20 sitting on a customer’s network. This thing will not make a connection with their email server. I have also tried sending alarms through “free” servers, Yahoo and GMX. Nothing and the same error. Have tried changing ports and going from a hostname of the email server to an IP address. The customer has not provided me with a DNS server, but tried Google’s 8.8.8.8. Changed poll rates higher, still nothing. The error message:

javax.mail.MessagingException: Unknown SMTP host: mail.gmx.com ;

Or whatever SMTP host I use ends the line. Any insights? Thanks.

Do you have a reply address entered?

Chris- A reply address? I have an "account" email address set up when I use a free service, my our email address. The customer did not supply me with one. Is the "account" what the reply address is? -Jay

ping the mail server by DNS and use it's IP address.
or add the mailserver to the hosts file in the jace.

check the requirements with your IT people, or if it is an external mail server that you get to from the internet then check their FAQs regarding mail setup
...some may not relay mail to other servers
...some mail servers req a reply address within the DNS domain. Some dont care
...others require authorisation.

if the mail server is there but rejects email...turn on 'Trace' for the EmailDriver and you can see the send and recieve in the Station Output of Platform MAnager.

In you're email setup under services, you will see a spot for a reply address. Make sure this has something even its wrong.

I generally use buildingxyz@gmail.com, Gmail always works

I have had good luck with GMX, attached is screen shot of my settings (Vykon 3.5.24), GMX also works good as an incoming account. Get the DNS servers by connecting your laptop to the customers network, and at a command prompt type in ipconfig /all it will show the addresses for the DNS servers plus much more.

Hopefully the screenshot will be readable.
