I had a new 4 ton hvac installed in a building the only thing is that when u turn it on it does the usual winding noise that units do and cold air is being blown however after a few minutes the unit seems to stop making any noise though the air is still being blown, but its warm air... does anyone have any idea what the cause or problem is..Thanks for any help.

How about calling the contractor that installed it?

A freelance handyman most likely doesn't have the skills or equipment to install a split air conditioning system. Did he even have an EPA 608 certificate?
By now the system is probably contaminated with moisture and other noncondensables. You need a qualified, licensed technician to diagnose and repair your system.
BTW, who decided that the system needed to be 4.0 tons?

Don't even go there buddy, get a service tech to look at it. You will have to pay someone if you can't get in touch with the original installer. Sorry but that's the way it is. There are so many things that could cause your problem and I would say on a new install there is nothing you can do yourself to repair it.

You said it was "new". However what you describe sounds like a failed condenser fan motor. Maybe your dad can find another "freeeeeeeee lancer" to check it out.... Or maybe a licensed contractor, a professional, would be a better option....

Let me give you some good advice.
STEP 1
The best thing to do is sit there and sweat, reflect on how stupid some people can be, and then open the phone book.
STEP 2
The fact that you would perfer to find the problem youself via this site tells me you need to read STEP 1 again

who hooked up the refrigerant piping, while brazing with nitrogen?
who pressure tested the line set and then properly evacuated the system?
who started the system and checked the charge according to industry standards?
call the internet company for service or advice.
why 4 tons?

If this is so simple why is it your on here asking us pros how to fix it. Theres a whole lot know how that comes with that $600 (LOL) that makes your ac blow cold air. When your done breaking that one I bet 600 will have seemed cheap by comparison.
No help for you, enjoy the heat.

Let see how you laugh when you find out what acidic oil is all about. Even if you did get it up and running you can be assured you will be hot again. Do a search on here and you will know what to look forward to. Enjoy

You may pay more for a professional install but there is more to it than just installation. My HVAC guy is at my house right now replacing the chimney liner cap because birds are getting in. He also changed blower motors because we couldn't get the right delta T with the original. This probably costs him money, but he eats the charges because he stands behind his work and sees to it that his customers are satisfied. That's value for your money to me.

dave looks like ur got one of the few and very rare honest a/c guy....where I live, modesto CA, most guys and companies are crooks....it gets pretty hot here..in the 100's lately, and they take advantage of the fact that people need to have theyre ac workin...I wouldnt have a problem paying someone to work on it but im definitely not going to overpay for the hell of it....guess thats just the way it is...similar to other places like tow/impound companies...they know u need ur car so they charge u an arm and a leg to get it back...

Can you come fix my pc for say $20 an hour?
I think that is a fair price...

Yellow, shouldn't that be 20 bucks period, not an hour.
After all, he has ethics, and morals.
Raidersfan, I too am a homeowner rather than a pro. But I have a ton of respect for the real professionals -- vs. the hacks. It certainly sounds like you have run into a few hacks and think everybody in the HVAC business is like that. They are not.
Think of it this way: you would be suspicious of a computer consultant costing less than say, $50 or $75 per hour. That amount is simply necessary for a pro in that field, to pay his bills and eat. Why not have a similarly charitable attitude toward HVAC professionals?
You never did explain what you did to fix your problem, nor what info you used to decide 4 tons is the correct size. Care to share that knowledge?

Don't draw a parallel between connecting a cable on a computer to repairing an A/C system. Playing with wires on those systems can kill you. So jumping on this messageboard and looking for help and then kicking dirt in the face of people who genuinely look out for your safety from experiance is extremely unprofessional.
These guys here meet people with the personality you are exhibiting on a daily basis and can spot you from a mile away. So you become fun fodder to kick and throw around, at your request.
Ethics and morals is giving a man his pay for good services rendered. Here is some tips for if you need a good service technician. Shop around, ask for referrals, ask for prices before the service technician arrives or is dispatched. Clean neat appearance, professional manners, explains the problem before he fixes it and gives you the total cost. Same thing you would expect from any repair person.
Remember, you came here asking for help. We offered what is the best solution for your needs from our perspective.

Funny thing you say that. We've had a run of York Cond. where the fan would freeze and somehow get bound. Do the install and test the system. A couple of days later call back. The fans were binding. Never found out why...

MAYBE YOU SHOULD GO OUTSIDE WHEN THE UNIT IS RUNNING AND SEE WHAT IT IS DOING.IT SOUNDS LIKE THE COMPRESSOR IS SHUTTING OFF DURING OPERATION,MAYBE LOW ON REFRIDG. AND OVERHEATING.
