rheem coils

why are rheem coils always draining from the primary and the secondary?
what am I doing wrong?

In a vertical or horizontal application?

cased, uncased or in an air handler?

If horizontal, are the drains coming from the bottom (pointing down) or front (pointing out)?

High return static can cause that.

Been installing Rheem for three years. Never had that problem. My only problem is getting them in the darn ah without ripping all the insulation out.

Horiz. gas right hand air flow no problem. Horiz. left have had a problem. Horiz. left the aux. drain is upstream of the main or closest to furnace. If thats your problem I'll tell you what I did to fix it. Of course you did only knock out the small round center piece, right?

it is a horizontal left.

the primary drains out of the coil, out of the attic and down the side of the house.

the secondary drains out of the coil but does not go very far, only a few feet out of the coil.

and yes I only knocked out the round centerpiece.

I had this problem once before with a Rheem coil, only whichever side I put the p-trap on... it would drain out of the other side.

Cut the drain fitting tube provided with the coil about 1 1/2" out from the drain connection. Use a cupling and top most part of a bottle cap (water bottle will do). Cut 25% off part of the circle. Fit it into the cupling and glue that end onto the drain tube that was cut off. Window cut out goes up of course. Hope this helps

It sounds like you're creating another partially open fitting much like the secondary fitting that's already on the coil and putting it inline. But I'm not sure. I need a picture.

The bottom of the pan is insulated, and there are perferations in the insulation (take out the insulation, thats why theperfs are there. I believe the instructions refer to this but call it "Florida Insualtion". I have seen guys take a piece of sheet metal and make a slip to cover the insulation but your just as well to take it out.

The secondary darin should also go out the side of the house and drain in a noticable place such as over the kitchen window. Inform the HO that if water drips from there they need to call you.

It might be that your lack of length of the secondary may be sucking air and gurgling at the secondary. I would consider the use of a trap there as well. once it fills, it should stop the gurgling and draining.

Nice fitting Selfemployed. I think you should bill Irascable for that. :)

Maybe I should thank them for making me think :D Docs right use a piece of metal and cut the corners off the end sheets when installing the coil in horiz. apps.

I'm sure he is right. He's always right. I just don't know what he's talking about because I don't do a lot of installs and never Rheem.

BTW Doc: You spelled my screen name wrong. "irascible (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=irascible)" is a word from the English language and not just something I made up. :P
