Anyone able to explain to me why there are 2 functional profiles that could be used by developers on say a unit ventilator controller:

1. 8080 Unit Ventilator
2. 8505 SCC-Unit Ventilator

Is there a preference? Why?

It looks to me that the 8020 fan coil profile is for simple temperature control only while the 8501 SCC-fan coil profile includes support for space CO2, air flow, and more.

Anyone can access and download the LonMark functional profiles at http://www.lonmark.org/profiles - you don't need to be a member of LonMark. Functional profiles should apply only to application specific devices however some vendors of freely programmable devices get around this by including one or two simple functional profiles (like an open loop sensors).

Regardless of which profile is implemented by the device manufacturer - if it is LonMark certified you have confidence that the device application is written in a standard way and the LonMark profiles included will be well documented. This provides a large degree of interchangeability between different device manufacturers.

Cheers,
