Went a job today where there where three Tempstar split systems. Two three tons, and one four ton. All three about two years old. All three have small leaks in the Evap. coil. Is this something that some of the rest of you have run into, or am I the only lucky one?

Where on the evap? Is it just on the metering device so you can tighten it or a braze connection or a srew hole?

Have model/serial numbers?
No problems here... could be a handling problem.

Been installing Tempstar for 14 years - never had a problem with indoor coils leaking - this sounds fishy to me !

They are hard to get to so I can't pin point the exact spot, but the sniffer goes off around differant spots on the tube sheets. On one I was able to soap it and saw a very small leak at the tube sheet, not at a joint. The installation isn't that bad, just not easy to get to. Checked the lines, joints and condensing units, but only picked up leaks on the evap. coils. Not feeling warm and fuzzy about this one, but thanks for the input. I"ll let you all know as I get more info.

Yes, formicary can cause some of those issues, but....
Serial numbers can tell me a whole lot.
ICP also has a Tin coil to replace the formicary issue.
Guaranteed it is not a coil issue, but some other issue causing it.
