1733 sq foot home. Has three attic roof vents that aren't powered.

What would be the best way to improve attic ventilation?

Ridge vents work well. I wouldn't recommend powered vents. There have been studies that claim that they use more power than they save.

Besides, most of the one's I see have burned up motors.

know that ridge vents not for low pitch & need baffel at front edge!
0.25" hardware cloth keeps out most insects, 0.5 for squirrels
