Norm, I recently took nate core,a/c service, and gas heat and scored mid 90's on ea. I got your pal's book a couple of weeks before exams and the practice tests helped much. Thank You. Tim Fox

Tim, glad to hear that the book was of help to you. That is why I wrote it. I have been contacted by many like you thanking me for writing the book. That sort of makes it all worth while.
I am currently working on developing some CDs and DVDs on HVAC as well.

Tim, have you been to the "For Your Interest" area on this site? You will find a number of very good articles for your edification there.
Also check out http://www.bacharach-training.com for still more good technical stuff.

To answer your questions Norm, yes I've been to those sites. I am fond of continued education from books, seminars,on line or any other way I can get it.I currently took the nate tests just to see how I would fair,as I have 2 jobs and the test is not a condition of either of them.Anyway thanks again.

I ordered Norm's book a few days ago. Looking forward to studying it. Now if I can find a place to take the test less than 200 miles from home, would be great!

You can take the exam over the Internet. Contact NATE at http://www.natex.org and they will let you know where the closest test procotor is located.

Thanks Norm. I would love to take the test on the internet. But I don't find anything about internet tests on the NATE website. I don't find a testing place till I up the search to 200 miles.

1) In what state and city are you located?
2) Call NATE via their phone number on Tuesday. They have more test proctors than just those listed on their site. I travel across the country and give the exams via the Internet.
We can find you something.

I live in the north east part of NC. The only residential license NC requires for HVAC is for installation. Repair requires none. So I want to get some kind of credentials. NATE seems like a good start. I wish a license was required for repair, I would get that.
Another bad thing about NC is for commercial refrigeration, they do require a license even to do minor repairs and maintenance. But there is only one test/license. That requires 2000 hours working for another company installing systems, which I don't have. The test requires you to be able to size/bid on new system from blue prints, which I have no knowledge of. I just want to do repair and maintenance on commercial equipment. That field is wide open in our town.
Guess I better git bizy studying!
