I'm not sure if any of you have heard of this or not, but I just read a book all about it. Virtual water is the water that is used to make everything that we use as well as grow the foods that we eat. However, I'm uncertain how accurate this is because for instance,a lot of water for growing comes from rain and there isn't any way to measure that. They also claim that the whole process in making a pair of jeans consumes 2800 gallons.
The whole point is that they want us to make wiser choices for food and such as to limit the amount of virtual water we consume in order to prevent a wae crisis. Thoughts? Anyone else see some flaws in this way of thinking like I do?

I think "Consumes" is the key word and misunderstanding here.
Do we consume or merely recycle?

drink water, then sweat and pee is out. it goes into the ground, evaporates or filters out, comes back as rain or ground water.

The earth is a self cleaning filter.
Humanity is not some evil leech devouring all of the earths goodness.
Humanity is a small PART OF nature.
We may alter soem things for the short term, but then so does every living thing. Thats part of the revolving door of nature.

The water isnt destroyed to exist no more. It's merely brought into a change of state, and reintroduced in another form, all to complete the cycle.
