my thoughts exactly,
I am all for getting paid for what you are worth. But with current ticket prices and how much an official NFL jersey cost. I truly do not feel "sorry" for any of them.

This means a lock-out is likely...that they really weren't near any kind of agreement in the first place.

When I spoke of a lock-out to people I know, everyone said " No way will they let it come to that". Hate to be right and hoping (until Midnite tonite) that I am wrong.

if the courts allow the players to block the lockout, the owners might be forced to cave. if the owners ARE allowed to lock out the players, the players might cave.

or no one budges and you kiss goodbye to free agency, off season schedules, and what could result in a shortened or missing season...

i hope the millionaires and billionaires sack up and figure this out

Let the players and their union kick in on the operating business expenses that the owners take the risk on. If they want the books open, fine, then pony up on the operating costs. Or forget that end of things and just play football.

Risk? there is no risk in owning an NFL team. Publicly funded stadiums, free advertising with radio, tv and newspapers, guaranteed income from tv, psl's, a socialistic system where the teams share equally many income streams. The only people at risk are the players and their health. Read a contract for the psl's, you owe it even if no games are played lol.

The problem isn't as much with the players against the owners. It is more the big franchise owners against the smaller franchise owners. Many income streams will not be shared which will be taken advantage of by the bigger franchises. The players are basically looking to keep the status quo. Which was an agreement that Gene Upshaw was ridiculed for. To change that agreement the owners will most likely have to open the books, which of course they won't. The big franchises will never allow it.

Sure the NFL uses the socialist business model. No dispute there. However, who pays the insurance costs of the game events? The stadium security? The marketing, food and drink concessions, parking attendants, player, coaching, and training salaries, so on and so forth? That's right, the owners do (even if the the cost are redistributed amongst the owners). Isn't that still risk?

I don't feel sorry for the players or the owners.I do feel sorry for all of the people who won't have a job if this continues.

Some of the security is picked up by the taxpayer. Again imo there is no risk being an NFL owner. The players are the product and they take on all the real personal risk.

If you look into this dispute you will see it is really between the owners. Because there will be real discrepencies in earnings in the future and the small owners know they can't get more from their fellow owners so they will try to get it from the players.

I agree. It will be interesting to see what owners start the layoffs first, and what owners keep on more people.

Some owners will simply not be able to afford any kind of work stoppage...others have deep pockets!

Many with the deepest pockets would have approved the players proposal anyway. It is the smaller market teams that are fighting the hardest.

It is funny using the word "afford' with these owners. I guess who can afford not to make a ton of cash?

With player salaries where they are at, I don't know about that last statement. One would be led to believe, the small owner would sick it to the fans.

I'd like to see Tom Brady run the entire Patriots organization. See how well that would go...

Anybody can run a football team and make money I believe. Or put it this way you would have to be an idiot to lose money in the NFL.

Most players no nothing about running the Biz , they just know how to play the game. Most don't even negotiate contracts or endorsements....their agents take care of all that for them. Here is a link to look at the basics of the NFL as an organization:

Seems like the only ones losing money are the fans. Players and owners are doing all right. So what is the problem? I'd say greed.

That's what I was getting at. Hot shots like Tom Brady and Peyton Manning would be clueless trying to run this billion plus ponzi scheme.

Not to say that being dead was the end result of what you have just said ,but you just described the NFL until just a few years ago. Are you suggesting that they play flag football? Football is a violent sport....they all know this going into it. The NFL is trying to figure out how to best take care of the players. What are your suggestions?
