View Full Version : how to diagnose a walk-in

Suppose a typical pump-down system (walk in cooler), using r-22, thermostat setted at 35 F, low pressure control at 30 (co) and 60 (ci), and ambient temperature at condenser place is 80 F.
Unit is running and cooling box without problems, I connect gauges and read hi and low pressures.
How can I determine whether pressures values are within correct operating pressures?.
Note: this is an ideal situation, what I want is to get something like a general rule to diagnose a walk in cooler system starting from knowledge of basic information about it.
Thanks for opinions.

your evap coil will be about 15 deg cooler than your box temp.35-15=20,check pt chart(43psig).High side 80 ambient+30=110,check PT chart(225psig).Check superheat and subcooling.

Footpound, I agree with you on certain conditiopns.
Like for certain boxes which require high humidity. Like flowers and veggies. But for pre-packaged foods, like in a C-Store ... you are looking at the figures I listed below.
Your evap coil will be about TWENTY DEGREES below your box temp.
For a 35F degree box about to satisfy on the T-stat ... you will wittness your gages reading a fifteen degree suction. And on R-22, that would be around 36#.
This is if things are running correctly.
Jus my two cents worth.
