got a 5 ton trane weathertron c/u high pressure switch keeps tripping. zone system malfunctioning. i was wondering if i could add a second high pressure switch in series in order to get the unit running while we work on zone system

Could there be a reason why its tripping? Are the condensers clean?

If it's tripping, why are you adding another? The first is still going to trip.
Is it tripping because of the zoning problem?
Is the high pressure switch actually bad?
Does the equitment need matienence?

high pressure switch is brand new..condensor coil is clean..dampers in the zoning system arent working properly..the building is temperature sensitive so im trying to keep the unit running while i sort out the zoning system..figured by adding a second pressure sitch the resistance would increase allowing for a high pressure than what one pressure switch would allow

Did you get an actual pressure reading? I have seen many pressure switches fail right out of the box. A second pressure switch would be redundant.

yes got a pressure reading. the switch is working fine. i had read in an actual service manual that you could indeed add a second pressure switch to remedy the problem temporaly but i forgot where i read it.

so, if you add another switch, what going to prevent the original switch from tripping?

Your saying the switch is tripping at its correct rating? I'm assuming the condenser fan is running.

If the second switch had a higher pressure trip...yes. Finding out why the current switch is tripping should be the ONLY thing on your mind at the moment.

i know the problem, not getting good airflow due to zoning system malfunctioing, i was just trying to find a tempopary fix while i worked on the zoning system. i couldnt have the unit down for long. thanx for the help

Yea....Bad airflow. If there was a way to by-pass or cut off part of the zoning...not enough info as to why that is going on . To your original question...no.

Forget the second HP switch. Just manually open all the zones until you find out what is wrong with the zoning system. Of course, if its just a condenser, the zoning system isn't the problem.

:gah:The idea is to correct the zoneing problems and still hold enough load to keep the system up. If the high preasure switch is tripping at the correct setting adding a second switch is not really the way to go. Fan cycle controls can be a little iiffyy when your internal load is drifting all over the place.:gah:
