a friend of mine says her fan comes on all by its self..
the t-stat is one of those old round non-digital ones.
its set on auto, and the heat/cooling is in off.
but insists the fan comes on all by its self then shuts off..
can someone give me a clue?

Where is the unit located.
Some attics get hot enough for the fan/limit switch to start the fan, and then shut it off when the sensor cools.
how would you like the thermostat to work.? if it wont turn off then set the temp do that it will

Bet it's a comfortmaker furnace...any takers?
You may need a resistor between G and C to stop the ghost fan.

Sounds like it is operating as it should.
If you will turn the temp dial all the way up when you turn the mode off ,it should prevent the fan coming on (unless they like to keep the house at 90+ degrees,or unless the t-stat is tilted.)
Have you considered calling in a ghost tech?
I think thats why its being asked here.....ghost pay
