I have a unit that caused eronious faults due to a poor 24 volt connection on a board at the molex (or amp) connector, i pushed some wire in there to temporarilly fix it.Is there a tool to tighten these things up?

You are probably looking at a D-subminiture contact inserted into a molex plug. Try Paladin tools mfg. by Weidmuller

Have had similar issues in the past. I just cut out the molex and put in 1/4 insulated quick connect fittings.

Had a unit where the accessory econ connection was all wrong from the factory, I had to pick up the tool from a local electronic specialty store.
If it really is a loose connection I would look closer at the plug, some of those male metal connection points are split into four fingers and you can spread them out a bit for a better connection.
I've also just cut out the plug as well and spliced it. Many plugs are there simply to help expedite the manufacturing process.

I've done the same on numerous cond units from York. They seem to work loose after while. 1/4: spades or just crimp connectors.
