During my morning rounds, I noticed Redi Purge on running
chiller, completely iced up. It was in adoptive mode and reading 00:14.
This reading never changed after 14 minutes passed.
Tried to shut it off or changed to auto, but nothing was happening.
Decided to re-boot it by pulling the fuse out. After this, I was able to switch it to auto. Shut the chiller off and turned another one on.
On Tuesday I will switch chillers again and watch this purge closer.
Do you have any idea what could cause this situation?
Chillers are R-11 and it was pretty cold that night. Condenser pressure was actually bellow atmospheric.

Its not uncommon to see ice on the txv. The question is. how much ice? I am in the southeast where humidity is high.
You say its reading 00:14. Is this purge run time or pump out time. You may want to check your pump out operation and make sure the solenoid valve is opening for pumpout. If the valve is not opening and your tank is full of air you will have lots of ice. Check your pumpout rates. You may have a leak or leaks. May be time for a regasket job. Hope this helps.

Purge was on. Normally 00:14 in adoptive mode would
mean that it should stop after 14 minutes. It never did
until I momentarily pulled fuse out. After that, I could switch it to auto and purge stopped after chiller was shut down.
Ice started to form after expansion valve all the way to compressor.
Sight glass at the bottom of purge tank was completely covered with ice. I wander why purge would not stop after I pushed “stop” button?
Could it be something like with PC that when it stops responding for some reason, one has to reboot it?

i would like to see a air reading taken manually to see how much air we are working with you may need to pull insides of purge drum out to see what is going on

Call Redi Purge and order a new motherboard. Been down this road with their purges all too often. Their boards are prone to lockups if you dont have clean power or are in an area with allot of EMF generating equipment.
I had a hospital that we were in a bad EMF area. After Redi had us replace the board 3 times they sent us a new purge. Same problem of locking up persisted. End result was I had them make a purge with mechanical controls after 6 months of lock ups and replaced the purge a second time. Problem solved.
