This is my first experience in this area. I am running cat5e
and would like to know a sure way of termination, plugs and
receptacles. Can anyone give me some instruction or tips?
I have the crimper and jacket cutter.

Is there a basic way to check your work, before you place in service? I am wiring the cables straight as opposed to crossed.

Please be compassionate with any answers, I am a elderly HVAC
mechanic. And am doing this for the challenge as well as the
fexibility of the network.

Thanks for your help. I am locating a tester and the website looks like a very good help source.
It is easy to learn a lot if you don't know much.

I like these guys: http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/searchproducts.asp?s=SP&dept=lch33&search=1to25-1&child=1to25-1&across=2&sort=new&ureq=y

I'm sure there are others. These guys have excellent customer service.

Update: re:RJ45 cable questions.

Thank's to all of you for your input. I bought the tester,
Ideal, and I found out no matter how good the plug looks, you have to test each one as it is made.
The network is small, 8 walljacks, but it still feels great to see it work.
The tester and website suggestions were really great.
