Since Im not asking about an HVAC tool, I thought this would need to be posted here. AND more asking about around the house use too. I know you guys are the people who generally like tools, so I just thought I would ask here. Probably a different site might be better for this one, but I like it here better. :)
Does anyone have a GOOD cordless jigsaw they have used and like? I have a pretty nice corded one, but curious about the cordless. I have had a cordless circular saw (DeWalt) and it never seemed to have enough a** or my batteries were not fresh enough.
Looks like Lowes has a Porter Cable one, not sure of HD yet.
Thanks for any input!

When you say 'jigsaw' are you referring to a sabre saw or a sawzall?
A sabre saw uses a blade 1/4" wide by 2-3" long... generally a tool one pushes along on its built in platform.
A sawzall uses a balde 3/4" wide and 6-12" long... generally a tool one holds in a free-style position and rough cuts things.
I do not have much experience with a cordless sabre saw, however for a cordless sawzall, the Milwaukee 'hatchet' (bends in the middle) is a nice tool. Milwaukee makes TUFF tools, and they invented the sawzall design back in the 1940's.

Jigsaw is the only name I have heard it called. :) And yes, the one on a "platform" where the blades goes up and down to the work. ( I guess they all do that, ha.ha).
I have looked at the Milwaukee brand several times, but every time I get a drill or whatever, seems I go a different way. Maybe this is the time to try it.
I do have a recip (Sawzall type) that is corded, and for what I have used it for have needed the extra amps. I have a Rigid, and it works pretty good
Again, curious about how it does. I would not have purchased that cir cordless after trying it, but i usually need a cir saw with a fair amount of meat on it! ;)

Sorry, I ment to add too. I am trying to cut down on my batteries and chargers clutter. :)
I need to find a DeWalt, Bosch, Ridgid, since I already have those batteries and chargers. Trying to reduce clutter with a new saw?????? hum, that doesnt sound right........

Makita makes a good one..18volt lithium. I have the Ryobi stuff which is okay but not great. Just remember that no cordless is gonna do a better job than corded. Most of my corded tools are Makita.

OK, IMO what you are looking for is a sabre saw... call it a jigsaw if it helps.
If it were me, since that is a fairly 'power intensive' application, it needs to be 18V or higher. And I suspect you will be charging batteries a lot unless you only do a few cuts now and then. Corded may be a good place to stay.
I carry a 6" Milwaukee circular saw on my van (18v)... Every now and then I need to do a short cut of plywood or a couple of 2x4's... An 18v battery will hold up for a few cuts.
The issue of battery capacity is still something that one should pay attention to. While I have never used a cordless tool with a larger battery than 18v, I find that tools that do heavy work do not last long on their charge...
We really need a jump in battery technology... for other things than power tools... Cell phones, laptops, cars, etc would all do well with stronger batteries.

I guess that narrows your choices down alot. Just buy one,try it and return it if you don't like it until you find the one out of those three.

The 18V lithium tools are good, very light in comparision to Ryobi. The battery life isn't as good as they advertise ,but none are. You can get a deal on a combo kit.

Yeah, I am "shopping" as I am going back and fourth from here.
-Yes! for the person that mentioned about needing at least 18v. That is sooo true and will consider that. So far, that is all I have seen, but good thought
-I can get a different brand, but would be nice not to have so many charger around.
-We do need newer technology on batteries, very good though. Seems much better then before, and I guess its better then by hand. Ha,ha.
-I do have a corded one, but this started from a job I was working on this morning. I had the van, but needed to make one long cut. I did have all the normal tools I carry and was about to go buy another one. I thought I might get a cordless one since I already have a corded one.
Raider-Looking for lighter? I am ALWAYS doing that too. I have owned several larger 18v drills that are very heavy. I have carple tunnel (sp?) and a heavy drill with a lot of use KILLS my hand. A long day and I can barely sleep at night with my hand going to sleep. I have the little Bosch that is pretty nice ( I have seen others have it too, in the VETO "sexy" pics thread), but the chuck is for standard screw driver. If you want to drill they have to have the special end, and the tolerance is pretty "loose" when drilling.
I just purchased (a week ago) the DeWalt Li-ion from Lowes, I believe it a 12volt. AND love it! its really small and has a Jorgenson chuck (sp? - the 3-prong screw). It has a sturdy metal clip (that is removable), and can clip to your belt. That has been a very good feature I was not aware of.
Right now at Lowes, you can buy this drill with another impact driver. With this set, you can get another battery free. I think this is good til the end of February. AND for some reason, you needed to get a change of address from from the post office. They have a coupon for 10% off at Lowes, and HD will take the coupon too. Just sayin............;)

i believe Bosch makes one of the best jigsaws available. what would you use if for? if you don't use it much the batteries will be worthless. i have a corded one that i use infequently. cutting counters for a drop in sink..really can't remember what else i use it for.
