Couldn't have been the first weekend in August last year because I was there. The first weekend of August is always the Lake St. Catherine's Golf tornament. Which I was at last year. And I already paid for this year.(Aug 5-6-7)
But the closer you annouce a date to the actual time the harder it is for folks to make a commitment. Dates fill up fast.

Lisa and I are getting married some time soon. We are in the middle of trying to find a place to cohabitate so we don't even know where we will be living.
With some help from the other Marylanders we could probably do the Baltimore and/or DC thing as well as a picnic at one of the many State Parks that are nearby.
If this happens here, steamed crabs will be a must.

September then. I'll keep the whole month open. My nephew lives near Baltimore so I can stay with them. I can meet Robo at a Subway for lunch and that would be the Convention - if worse comes to worse. We might have to get take out and eat lunch at the York distributorship if Robo can only get an half hour. :)

Usually they give you a souverign wooden mallet with the name of the resturarant on it. We could have something like "For real crabs click on H-Talk" on the mallets. Jack you're in charge of that.:D

I guess we can plan this without Robo. OK, early September, I'll find a hotel/motel online near the inner harbor and we can all make our own reservations there. Friday afternoon will be the meet and greet, we will get a party room so Beenie can get a break........unlike last year where we all ended up in his room.:D
We will find a place near the inner harbor so then we can all just do a walking-bar-food-whatever tour....maybe find a titty bar for Jack even...:D
Saturday Robo has to find a park and get a permit if needed, we can get the beer and food down there somehow.
Who is in so far, speak now or forever hold your peace.
Remember how bummed ya were last year when ya saw the pics from all us guys......and cute gals????
Don't let it happen again.
Plan on bringing your sig other, even if ya are a fag, this is a politically correct function.....:D

I was afraid you wouldn't be able to make it Jack, what with all the babies in your house now.........OK....so if Jack can fly in from Denever and make arrangements for his young kids, I can't see anyone else making excuses that would be any harder than those......can you??
Sept 8 is my birthday too..........:D

Diceman
05-19-2005, 02:48 PM
We have a 2 minute discussion called, "superheat and it's impact on a global economy." That lets you write it off as a biz trip, if 2 minutes is too long, we can shorten it up some.
Here are some hotels open for Sept 9-11. As you can see they are more pricey than the one we had in Pittsburgh.
BUT don't forget, we had to pay for a party bus for the Friday night tour. Even though these rooms are more, we can all walk around down by the inner harbor, which is the place to be. And I bet since it is after summer, if a certain someone calls them up and schedules a "convention" and says we will probably get about 20 rooms, they will give us a discount.....ya dig.

Hell, at the last convention we got through the business end including everyone in a picture wearing Goodman hats in less then 2 minutes.
If you get the convention dates finalized we will help you promote it by putting up a banner on the website. It will help get the word out to everyone and increase attendance. I am also working on the boss to do something for it, if you can get it put together with enough notice.

Let's take an informal vote. Do we want to;
Try to hit both DC and Baltimore's Inner Harbor, or
Just do the Inner Harbor, which can keep us busy and great for everyone.
Just do DC; Air & Space Musuem for example
Book rooms in a hotel with a good bar and just stay $h*t faced for a weekend

There is a ton of stuff to do just in Baltimore. I would like to see the inside of that Ft. McHenry for instance. Also what is that place that is like a big open market with all kinds of eats, shops and things. I got half sh!tface one afternoon. It was in what looked like old trolley barns.
If you tried to squeeze DC in you would be spending too much time traveling.IMHO
I penciled in Sept 9-10-11 (in ink)! Let me know if it changes.

Sounds like the plans are in motion. We stick to doing Baltimore's Inner Harbor we have lots to do. Fort McHenry is not far from Harbor Place as well as Little Italy and Fell's Point. All great food and plenty of drinking establishments within staggering distance.
I'll check some of the hotel prices right at the Harbor. We may only need to do transportation from BWI airport.

Is that the beginning of the football season? If so it will be crowded. After a few games the crowd dies down.
Still, that is the last night so it may not affect the weekend. There is plenty to keep us active right from the Inner Harbor area. There are boat cruises night and day. There is the short trip to Fort McHenry. The National Aquariam is right there and is not very crowded on Friday evenings. The U.S. Frigate Constellation is good for an hour or so (This sailing ship was recommisioned during WWII to be sunk in the North Harbor to block German subs.)
There is a massive amount of places to eat and a lot of unique shopping all in the Inner Harbor area. While Annapolis, Antietam, Gettysburg and many other close by places are really nice, there really will not be time.
I will look into some cruises and such. Maybe we can do a party boat.

Pontoon boats hold 10-15 people each. There are a few places that rent them right around the Harbour. I know a few secluded beach's only accessable by boat withen minutes of the Harbour that are good for partying. Just a thought.

I remember in jr high the whole 9th grade took a cruise down to Annapolis on the old Port Welcome spent half a day walkin around had lunch then back to Balt.
Annapolis is a beautiful place .... they try to preserve the way it looked back in the late 1700's ...lots of nice seafood restaurants right on the water... I know it's alot to try and cram in on just a weekend....but some may stay a few extra days and it's definitely worth a look.

The hotel price is not that bad when we consider that everything is right there. I just checked the water taxi. For $8 a day you can take a water taxi (boat) to most places around the harbor including Fort McHenry.
http://www.thewatertaxi.com/index2.html
If we got together in one of the rooms of the hotel on arrival Friday we could all walk on down to the cruise for an 11:00pm to 2:00 am cruise around the harbor and up the Patapsco River. This way we could weed out those who can't hold their alcohol early in the weekend. Most overboards wash up around Pier 5 within a few days.
Then, Saturday could be a "do as you please" with those with common interests doing what they like to do around the Harbor. There is the National Aquariam, the Science Center, an Orioles ballgame, shopping galore, boat rides, tour a frigate or a sub etc.
Saturday evening could then be the crab feast at wherever we get the best deal. There is a place less then 2 miles from the hotel that has a traditional South Bawlmer feel to it that is supposed to have the best crabs, but there are also good restaurants that serve crabs very close to the hotel.
Sunday would be a do what you want day before leaving. For anyone who likes Italian food I highly recommend having lunch in Little Italy (An entire Italian neighborhood) before leaving. During the Baltimore race riots in 1969 Little Italy was the only downtown area not vandalized. The presence of three piece suited Italians with shotguns and automatic weapons walking the street can be a deterent for anyone thinking about being destructive.

Last year by the time everyone got in and we had a few beers and did the tour, most of us were spent. Ya know, after a long day of travel and then the meet & greet in Beenies room and then the tour. I'm not sure we will all hold up for a midnight cruise after all that.
I really think the advantage of paying for a nice room in the inner harbor is just to find somewhere we can walk to and maybe do some bar hopping and stuff on Friday.
As far as paying for an organized boat thingy, I think Sat would be better....JMHO.

Catch up Dice. We already decided on Saturday evening for a crab feast and then the moonlight cruise. That leaves Saturday during the day for whatever the individuals are interested in.
Like I said before, there is plenty to do real close. The aquarium can take all day if fish is your thing. The Science Center can also be a day long event especially if you take in an Imax movie there. Just walking around looking at the boats and shops can take up the day. Or, if you are into old boats, the USS Constellation frigate and the USS Torsk submarine are right there for touring. You can take a water taxi to Fort McHenry or other places around the harbor or even take a peddle boat out into the harbor yourself.
I think everyone will have a blast. I am looking forward to meeting more of you face to face. We really are quite an ecclectic group here and the personal socializing is quite unique in that we have a base commonality but are all very different otherwise.

Suggest we embrace the motto Electric Ecclectics, thereby suggesting that our collective and unique differences delve into a dynamic sameness! Sort of like... Well... nevermind. I got bit by 460VAC today... I still smell 'burnt toast'.

Once you guys get this definitively planned. Arranged and tightly set. Would someone send me an email and just give the details of when I need to be there and where.
I regrettably missed the last convention. I intend to be at this one for sure.

Okay, we are in. I got a senior citizens discount. Email me and I'll give you the details.
Also they don't have the contract number for H-talk in the system yet. The reservationist said that we can just notify them when we get the number and they will put us near each other and credit the contract.
Well, as soon as this magical number is available then please post it and e-mail it to attendees. $199/night is quite steep so any discount will be nice.
Oh, and we're driving. So I'll be tired and cranky when I get there!
Then again, 7 hour drive or $183 per person RT nonstop from Ohare to BWI. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, gonna have to do some convincing. The wife doesn't want to fly after 9/11 but I think if she can't help drive then she shouldn't put me in the seat for 7 hours.
Oh, well. We'll see..............

Can you carry our bags and beer cooler from the parking garage to our room? Also could you turn down our bed. And those little mint candies on our pillow would be nice. Can you fold my jammies to look like a bunny?

Rent a couple of the "Homicide Life on the Streets" DVD's before going. Get the Balmore feeling.
Didn't one of the pontoon boats blow over last year?
Have the crab feast at Camden Yards. Plenty of room if the O's do what they usually do that time of year.
Go to Pickles then the Titty Bars around the corner.
Is the date for sure? Refer handling the rockfish charter?

Are you kidding? Byrd is my nickname from way back. I'll "do" any kind of bird :D Of course if it is one of the older ones with the fins I will need to do a lot of washing with my back(side) to the car. All those little holes in the grille work? No problem.

The Area of Fells Point that is used to film "Life on the Streets" is real close and accesable by water taxi.
Yes, one of the water taxis was turned over during a freak wind. Makes it even more exciting knowing you could die! EH?
Camden Yards is expensive whether the "O"s are doing well or not. I'm thinking more like Phillip's.
I worked on the Block, where the titty bars are, for years. I don't recommend that area any more. It's not like it was when Blaze Starr was at the 2 O'Clock Club.
The date is firm...August 26-28

Besides that! I used to be an officier in the Elks Lodge so I had to have a Tux. What color cumberbums are we wearing? I got black, blue and red plaid in stock!
I got a friend in the undertaking business. He could cut us a deal on some slightly used flowers. I'll throw them in back of the Expedition. :D

Well Folks, I have been hesitant to post this but it's unavoidable. With my wife's recent medical bills coming in after insurance adjustments, cort fines and mandatory education classes for her legal stuff associated with the DUI she got, there is no way I can afford to come to the convention. I'm sure you'll all do fine without me there and I can bask in the glory of the pictures you'll post of the good times to be had by all. If I win the lottery then I can change the decision but barring that, there is just no fiscally responsible way for me to attend. :(

Went to the Orioles/Yankee game last week, (major rain out). Took a customer who used to stomp that area. We went to a local "bar" and watched the entertainment. Another buddy told me he got ripped off, girl ask if he'd buy her a drink, he said sure! Bought the drink but didn't get change back for his $20. I pointed to the $20 min. drink price for the dancers signs.
