I had a locked up BRE 2-0750 TFC on a '88 AAON rtu the other day. I had my local wholesaler compare prices of recip vs. scroll for this application. We were both shocked to find out that the scroll was about $ 300.00 cheaper.
In the past, 5 ton scrolls are usually about $ 100.00 more.

I like the propaganda on scrolls vs. recips. I hope it holds up for me and my customer.

For what's it worth department! Copeland is phasing out the BR family of compressors. They will accept orders until the end of May. After that the scroll will be the replacement.

Dear Mardoman,

Regarding your previous post:

“I like the propaganda on scrolls vs. recips. I hope it holds up for me and my customer.”

I would have to agree with your statement that propaganda has been thrown from “both” directions in this debate, especially from the scoll side, but I find that given all the facts, there is still a place for both types of these different compressors in our vast field.

Service technicians should get a lot better understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of both of these compressor types, as well as their applications on different types, and sizes of HVAC/R systems.

Respectfully Submitted,
John J. Dalton
