Does any one else look up into the blue sky and wonder what the f is that single white streak behind that really high flying airplane?? Usually its not one or two but about 25 streaks across the sky!! Im not into vampires, werewolves, ghosts, area 51, little green fellas, or spaceships. Just wanted to make that damn clear.
But what the heck are those streaks? Would normal combustion vapor out of a jetliner at say 35,000 feet disperse alot quicker?
Does anyone else give a crap about this?

it's allot of planes! And its water vapor off of the engines ...Must be our finest doing a mission of some sort..can't see it here in Texas

You must be related to my sister. She gets into these kind of concerns and her answers sometimes makes me wonder if we are really related.

That can be called vapor trails. It's simple the moisture in the air condensing from the hot exhaust of the engines showing up as a cloud. Notice in a few moments they disapate as the temperature returns to normal and the conditions for the cloud or vapor trail don't exist anymore.

That's the one William Shatner's on. He sees a gremlin out there toying with the engine, but nobody believes him.

Con trails do evaporate fairly quickly..but the ones everyone are talikng about..do not evaporate..they expand. They usually are x's in the sky. I mentioned them to my pops one day..he thought I was losin it..a few weeks later he was like damn there really are x's in the sky..and they aren't evaporating. My god anyone that hasn't noticed them must b livin under a freekin rock. And yes they r in texas..I'm n/east of dallas n there everywhere here.

OK. I'm not suppose to talk about this but........it's actually when the stewards pull the handle that empties the latrines in the atmosphere......I just would not stand under the trail for very long...............I'd get a couple of miles away very quickly.

What you are talking about is a very old piece of internet lore. It is an urban legend, and it's often referred to as the "Contrail Conspiracy."

This misguided idea states that the planes are loaded with chemicals that come shooting out the engines at high altitudes to:

a) cause cancer
b) cause infertility
c) prepare the earth for a takeover by aliens
d) all of the above.

In reality, a contrail is merely the water vapor that becomes visible in the subzero atmosphere at high altitudes, and it is a byproduct of combustion.

Nothing more than that. The water vapor freeezes into tiny ice crystals.

No conspiracy.

Alright.
The object (plane) at say 35000 - 40000 feet away is visible. Probably pretty big in general size - at least 4 turbine.

Ice crystals - Would stay suspended at that altitude for what, say, 8-10 hours on a bright sunny day. Your saying ice crystals-an object at 25-32 degrees in direct sunlight for 8-10 hours. Not sure about that one Maxwell.

I live by an airport, cruising altitude is what like 28000 to 35000 feet for cargo and passenger planes. So these a-holes have to be flying higher than that.

Why are they making 6 - 14 passes (streaks) when they are doing this?
So you are having planes go back and forth at about 300 - 600 miles a pass.
Must get one hell of a deal on jet fuel!

Yup will just go with the ice crystals-nothing else makes sense at this point.
Maxwell sorry I mean Timebuilder, you are right!

At 35 thousand feet, the temperature is well below zero. I can't remember now , but, I know it's mighty chilly.

When I used to fly,I remembered that kind of stuff.
There is a web site called DUATS. It would give the winds aloft temps. As I remember it, it was a lot less than -24. But, I could be wrong. Time should know, I believe he's still a pilot.

Cruising altitude is largely dependent upon distance.

I routinely had the Lear at FL410. That's 41,000 feet pressure altitude.

Trust me. No chemicals. The world is full of crackedpots. Don't be one of them.

If you want to become really concerned about something factual, start worrying about what will happen to the US if the Dollar is no longer the world's reserve currency.

THAT is truly scary.

Timebuilder, I love reading your responses as they are never far fetched and usually are nailed right on the head, and I also enjoy reading crazy ass threads such as this one ROFL. All that is is moisture off the engines of the airplanes, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread lol. Many predict these are the endtimes due to the prophecies of the book of Revelations, but also many have predicted the end times before and been wrong. IE Hitler and WWII

I also live in dallas, and DFW is like the 4th biggest airport in the USA. Explains all the contrails where you live.

You are too kind. I try.

Years ago, folks used to post Chemtrail stuff on the pilot website I frequented. People were SO surprised that none of us were involved in this perceived "spraying" of stuff in the atmosphere.

For the doubters: if you learn how aircraft are fueled, you will find that there is no individualized sourcing of jet fuel, and no chemical tanks for any extra ingredients. There is ONE additive for airplanes that fly for extended periods at the colder altitudes, called Prist. It keeps the Jet A from jelling in the lines. The rest is just highly filtered kerosene. That's the basic component of Jet A. Nothing exotic. There are various military grades, but it is all pretty much the same stuff. And, because of the nature of fossil fuel, water is produced during combustion.

If there were something to contrails that was sinister, my many contacts (from academy grads I roomed with to the CNO) would have discussed it with me. Having flown people from three white house administrations, I feel that such a nature would have easily been discovered.

But, some folks need a straw man to worry about, instead of real problems. And boy, do we have things about which we SHOULD be concerned.

When I was in the AF one of my duties was to measure the air temperature at 35,000 ft. It typically was about -40F.

Had to use a tall ladder though.

Kinda hard securing a tall ladder like that as well.

I typically didn't need anyone else. A good sense of balance helped.

The main problems were finding a van that could carry a 35,000 ft extension ladder.
