Does anyone have an opinion on where RUUD ranks in quality? Is it the same as Rheem? I've read that the contractor is more important than the brand. We need to replace our old unit... too many leaks. I have an AC guy who has been a great service tech for us the last few years and I would like him to install our replacement. While he works on all brands, he will install only RUUD or AMERICAN STANDARD (he prefers RUUD). I read through many of the posts here, but have not seen RUUD mentioned.

I installed mine(a/c) in 1992 and it still has the original parts. I also use a Spacegard filter. Seal your ductwork if
not already done. I would buy Rudd again if I felt the line had not gone through "Value Engineering" resulting in a product that was just cheaper, not better.

RUUD has a reputation for the KISS approach. They tend to try to engineer using the least to obtain the most. Less bells and whistles to go wrong.

One design feature that may be of interest is the low profile of the RUUD outdoor unit. It is less conspicuous and is easy to "hide" with landscaping.

As you might expect, I vote for the RUUD unit.

I have installed Rheem, and Ruud, and can not tell
the difference. If the nameplate was not there,
you would not know which is which. I have liked these
brands, much less trouble that most others.

Thanks so much to everyone for taking the time to reply. I'm convinced the RUUD will be a good choice. Thanks again!
