got a question for ya... XL19i heat pump... Got a customer call the other day... says the heat pump is making a noise like a turning signal in it.....click click click.... I show up and someone had turned the breaker off to it... Turned it on and unit works perfect.. Still I wonder what the .... would be a click click click on it... Any ideas?
No idea what the click click was... unless temp was close enough to be switching the contactors off first stage to second????? Never heard anything anyway, like they described... botherin me though tryin to figure out what it could be.

I believe the defrost board on that can be set up to flash a code on the em heat light. The clicking is a relay on the board that does that. Tell them if it does it again, check for the em heat light flashing and count the blinks like on a furnace board, or listen to the clicks and see how many in a row. That could tell you what the fault is.

How are those XL19's now? My contractor down here wasn't real fond of them ~4 years ago b/c of the dual compressors and he'd apparently had trouble with them ('though I think they were 18's back then).

so far I like em, a lot of controls in em compared to the usual stuff. The two stage compressor 16i had a problem, but thats cured now. The 18 last year had a piping correction in em, had to rassle one lady out of hers changin it out... They didn't fix em they just changed out the unit. So far, I like em... Not sure when they get old but so far....mmmm hmmmmmm
