If you've never tried it on the grill you don't know what your missing. Just buy that traditional corn beef brisket that you always get, trim the fat and throw it on the grill and cook it slow. You can use the spice packet but don't add salt, enjoy!

Ive thought about throwing one in the smoker before. but again Ive never bought one so not sure the "traditional" way of cooking it is.

I do the corned beef in a crock pot for about 8 hour. After slicing, it is easy to cut with a fork.
I do the cabbage by boiling it in sections, about 5 minutes with a bit of lemon juice.
Serve it buttered with a pinch of salt & pepper.
Cabbage cooked more than about 7 minutes begins to really smell stronger, or so the internet cooking sites say.

yes it does...i have a recipe for shredded cabbage and bacon drippings.
shred cabbage
boil for 1-2 min till it turns a bright green
throw in a hot cast iron skillet that you have cooked bacon in
add caraway seeds and crushed croutons...toss n serve
anything over 2 min with shredded cabbage and it gets slimy and stinky

Yea, I kinda like the Crap In the Can... Kinda like Biting your Toenails. My Wife will Not Eat Any Canned Meat, period. Most all (canned) Corned Beef comes from Argentina or Brazil. Might be Horse?
I'll have to try cooking Real Corned Beef on the grill.
Thanks!

You put both or one on top when it's in your plate? That's a new one on me but hey, I'll try it.
I've done it on the grill and it did come out good, partly wrapped in foil to keep the juice in. Lately been playing with a pressure cooker and did the corned beef. 1 hour with beer and spices, came out awesome!

Recently I have been cooking the canned corned beef hash. But I put an easy twist to it. Once the can is opened I take a butter knife and run it around the inside of the can. The hash will then slide out in one piece. Then I slice the log of hash into four patties. Then I fry these in a cast iron pan with some grease just like a hamburger.
They form a nice brown crispy crust that tastes great with a couple of eggs-over.

We will have to BBQ some of them for breakfast this year!!
You can also drop the egg right on top of them and cover to cook. Hmmm, I might have breakfast for dinner tonight!

There are only a few places around here that make it fresh/Homemade.
Along side eggs and Potato pancakes, sour cream and apple sauce.
I'm not too fond of canned hash (can be too salty) but I WILL try that butter knife trick and the refrigerated patty. It sounds like I can acquire a taste for that kind of food.
It's funny how left-overs can become such a delicacy.
I'm also a fan of Smoked Salmon, Squid, Smoke Mackeral,
Chicken Gizzards with Hearts and gravy on dumlings, smoked Hog Jowls
and Goat. Brazed Goat! delicious.
Any crazy food you guys like?

Pickled fish, Swedish potato sausage(hard to find), anchovies on my pizza, choriso, sushi with wasabi. Also Lee's Chicken has the best gizards i've ever had.

We always sprinkled a little vinegar on the cabbage and vegetables and the mustard was for the meat.

My son and grand son and I went to camp this week end. Also some other snow mobilers dropped by.
They called them "hash pucks" :D. I didn't have any leftovers. :) (never do at camp.)

Happy St Patties day yawll!!!
My favorite beef; aside from a good steak!
I stayed away from corned beef these past few weeks knowing
my brother was having the family over for corned beef today!
Corned Beef, Cabbage, Carrots, Horse Radish, Hot Mustard & Potatoes.
As bad as times are economically it's all worth it today.
And I'm only Irish once a year!! Go Figure…
Cheers!

We did a dish at a restaurant that was so good the staff typically ate most of it. Owner included.
Day before make your typical corn beef with spice packet. Refrigerate meat. If you cook the liquid down and then cook potatoes you will make great mashed potatoes.
Slice refrigerated meat and then grill to heat and add char. Top with green sauce.
Herbs not a good value at grocery store. Sauce is so good it's worth growing them.
Green Sauce
2 handfuls parsley
1 handful mint
some dill
tiny bit of tarragon
small can anchovies
capers
olive oil
black pepper
rough chop all together
Grilled corn beef, green sauce, mustard, cabbage and boiled or mashed potatoes.
Some pickled vegetable if you have them plus red wine or good beer!

where do you get the real corned beef? all I found at the grocery store is the cold cut variety, and they sucks.

Ground beef smell the same when saute worse off with onion, add spices such as mustard/pepper/chili powder or herbs to rid the smell.

To cut in hockey puck slices, just cut the lid and the bottom out of the cans, and push out the amount for a slice, slice it off and push out the next portion. When you're camping, or at home, you can flatten the can, and they take up less room in the garbage. Gramma taught me this when I was small.

A good way to cook pickled pork that turns out like leg ham.
Fire up the webber BBQ with coals get them burnin hot , let them cool down , throw some pine cones in on the coals so they smoke slightly , place your pickled pork on the rack , replace the webber lid , let cook for a few hours or until tender.

forgot all about this thread...anyways i smoked my corned beef a few weeks ago. Meh did not add to much extra flavor because the smoke was over powered by the spices. Wont be doing it that way again.
