ref. oil pour points

I recently took my NC Heating lic. exam and was asked what the pour point of ref. oil is. I wasn't sure. the choices were: above compressor temp, below compressor temp. or in relation to outdoor temp. any suggestions?

Answer I got from member:
below comp. temp because pour point is temp. at which oil gels. Sound good?

That is correct.

However, that is a pretty lame license exam question. I have written license exams as well as dozens and dozens of college exams for HVAC. That particular question does not belong on a state contractors exam.

I agree, the question really seemed unecessary to me, I think it is one that very few get correct so they keep it in there to keep the pass % down.

I could understand it if the question were on one of the RSES CM or CMS exams where they are testing for technical knowledge. But it has no practical value to a contractor attempting to get a state license.

Many of the state licensing exams a full of questions that have no meaning or practical use to a contractor.
