For too long I've put up with my condenser just outside my Florida room. It's too loud. Not a fan noise, a compresser noise. The noise hasn't changed since '89 when it was installed and runs like a dream. It's the only place I could put it.

Anyway, I hear that one can get or build a sound barrier or jacket for the motor. I was told by suppliers they are mostly custom made. I prefer not to but I can't seem to locate any online to buy.

Can anyone tell me what materials would work best, 1" foam (what kind), plastic tarp sewn around to keep moisture out? Does it need holes to dissipate heat generated by motor (but I'm told the coolant does that so not to worry), etc.

I will keep looking for a web site that might tell me how to do this but no luck so far.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Call local contractor and ask them. They can order one for you. They are expensive.

Or you could replace your system with a high eff. unit, the new units are very quiet.

Try a compressor blanket

wow: you had the same air conditioner since '89, it must of been installed right, I would install a new A/C, something that is quieter and more energy efficient, your time is running out, exspensive repairs are only around the corner and it will happen on the hottest day of the year.. sorry to be so negative
