How in the world are we suppose to decide on a heating and air unit? I just feel lost about the whole thing. I know that 10 and 12 SEERs aren't going to be manufactured after 2006 and that all units have their flaws to some degree.
My husband and I can't decide what would be best for us cost wise and house size (1500 sq ft). I guess the fact that we are freezing in our house doesn't help matters and we need to make a decision fairly soon.
I have had 3 quoutes-Trane, Amana and Lennox. Where does Rheem fall in all of this? I guess it's sortof like buying a car isn't it-everyone has their favorite??
I would greatly appreciate all of your all's thoughts b/c I know you aren't trying to upsale me like we've had today! :-/ Thanks for your time!

Where are you located? (state)
What units are you looking for?
(furnace, air conditioning, heat pump, oil)
I ask location, because your climate will be a factor in payback.
Other than that, ask friends, neighbors, relatives, co-workers who they use and if they are happy. Ask to see some pictures of their work. Ask for references. Ask them questions, who makes the most sense? Who makes you feel like they are going to do the best quality work? Who offers a contract to protect both parties?
Trust your instinct!

We are in TN. We are needing a gas/electric combo unit-or at least that we have now and have been qoutes on.
Thank you jultzya for your reply. We feel comfortable with one guy b/c he seemed like a normal person doing his work. Not some guy trying to sale us the most expensive model and bad mouthing the competition (like another did). But even so, we are still concerned about the $ and what would work best for us, ya know? Thanks again!

Gas furnace & split A/C?
Furnace inside home with coil, while having the 'condensor only' outside?
Or
One complete unit that sits outside?
That is ducted into the house with metal ducting?
What Brand Should I Buy (http://hvac-talk.com/vbb/showthread.php?threadid=38790)

i havent heard of any package units witch is what you have by the way you discribe it that are higher then 12 seer as of yet. could be wrong. i mostly deal with lenox and think they are great units. but as far as package unit trane seems to be the best going. seer right now realy isnt much of a factor if you go with the 12seer you will get a payback over time and save on cooling now. worrie about the much higher seer in 15 years when you need to
