I have a Bohn air handler with a stacked DX coil (M# RT26BMA). A new Carrier condensing unit (M# 38AH-028-610AA) was installed to replace the Bohn (M#RCD24RD) condensing unit (before my time). Both compressors are 06D 9 ton compressors and compressor #1 has a mechanical unloader.

However, I have one 10 ton TXV and one 15 ton TXV. My understanding is that one TXV was changed when they replaced the C/U because they were having problems with something. My supervisor remembers something about having problems with head pressure or flood back, but not sure what.

My number 1 compressor is running at about 50-75 pounds lower on the head pressure.

I thought the TXV's were supposed to match the compressor.

Thanks...

A tx valve is a needle valve with a temperatue compensated actuator. the charge in the bulb is used to stroke the valve. the adjustment is really only changing the spring pressure inside to counteract the piston, so, it really depends on the amount of refrigerant a valve will flow to the coil. It is not unusual to see a valve that is rated larger than coil capacity. just a guess that you are out of adjustment or have a failed top. The information you provided about head pressure is virtually meaningless with regard to the tx valve.

If TXV is sized too big, it will cause problems, such as too low evaporating pressure. Does the TXV have a MOP charge
