hey guys I'm just trying to get a better bead on how a compresser operates. I'm an apprentice and had my first chance to pull a copeland apart today to change the valves.

I had two questions. one about the unloader operation, and one about general compresser anatomy.

first, I noticed that on the side which contains an unloader, there is an empty gap which is open to the inside of the compresser. if I remember correctly, this is the portion which the soliniod uses to operate the unloader piston. on the opposing head, which has no unloader, the same hole is present. this one, however, has a tube inside it...looks like pvc. what is the reason for this?

the unloader itself......the boss explained to me how the unloader uses the pressure of the system to operate the piston, but I'm scetchy still. I had to pull the old one out with vice grips and assumed the new one would slide in nicely. it didn't. I had a hell of a time getting it in, espesially trying to do so w/o damaging the white gasket at the bottom. once I got it in, it would not budge at all and if I were to try to remove this new one I would still have to pry it. given the tightness of the piston and the spring located undernieth it, I can't possibly see this piston operating with the pressure the compresser offers.

any insight available? I'd really appreciate it if someone would help me out here.
