In response to sprintmj19 I am starting a new posting:

Open System Conversion (previously posted)
I am planning on changing my closed hydronic heating system into and open system so it can also supply my domestic HW. I plan on having the supply water run through the hydronic piping so the water doesn't get stale. I will have to have the intake water run through a Taco RMB-1. Will running water through the pump cause any damage to the pumps in the RMB? The other way is to have the DHW bypass the hydronic piping but then the water in the heating system would get "stale" in the summer months.

New Posting

The reasons I would like to use an open system:

1. I want to remove a vent chimney which is only being used by the water tank

2. I presently have a takagi heating the water for my floor

3. My basement is not unlimited and I can't just push a tank to a wall and vent it outside

4. Radiantec shows a closed system at on their website (http://www.radiantec.com/systems-sources/systems.php). Are they not a reputable company? I would be setting mine up the same way.

In response to sprintmj19 regarding the temperature of a water tank. Mine is sitting at about 135F. This is still in prime breeding temperature for legionella. I guess I don't completely understand why this disease is not more prevalent given every home has an idea breeding ground, the water heater. It would almost make sense that using a tankless heater and flushing the hydronic lines line would be better due to the fact there are less gallons in a hydronic system compared to a 50 or 60 gallon tank. Additionally, all of the water in the hydronic system would be flushed whereas this would not be the case with a tank.

The does not address the added impurities being continually introduced into the hydronic heating which may eventually lead to problems as stated by Gordon on HH. The suggestion to use the XPB-1 is the best solution I’ve heard so far for my constraints. Is the connection layout the same as the RMB-1?

Thanks
