View Full Version : Carrier Infinity thermostat has mind of it's own

Hi all,

I had a Carrier infinity system installed almost 2 years ago, and now I'm convinced my thermostat is possessed. Otherwise the system has been great.

I have the scheduling set up for 60* for "sleep", that is from 10pm to 7am. If I wake up at night I've noticed several times my furnace will be running, and it'll be much warmer than 60*. This morning at about 5.45am I woke up and noticed it was running, so I went to check my thermostat. Sure enough, it said "sleep" in the lower lefthand corner, but set for 70* in the lower right hand corner!

Has this happened to anyone else?

If the control is set to "intelligent recovery" in the programing it will bring the furnace on X amount of minutes/hours ahead of the time you have set for it to warm up from a night time setback. With the control you have I will assume it has an outdoor thermostat/sensor that allows the outside temperature to show on the display. The colder it gets outside the sooner, or further ahead of the wake time it will turn the furnace on.

Is the control possessed? No, it's just doing what it has been told/programmed to do.

If you have the installation booklet for the system you should be able to find in the installation manual part for the control and find where it tells you how to change the settings if you don't want it to perform the way it is.

One other possibility is to call your service contractor and have them change the settings for you.

If you're wake schedule is set at 70, then yes it will start getting the temperature closer to the next time periods setpoint in order to reach the set temperature by the time the next period begins. It can be disabled but the thermostat is fairly complex in terms of installer set up. Have a tech make the adjustments.

Check the schedule setup carefully. You can program the controller to have either a weekday/weekend or 7-Day schedule. You may have accidently gone into the 7-day mode and changed one of the days to have a different schedule than the rest. This would give it the appearance of being "possessed" once a week.

Thank you firecontrol!

I found the setting called "smart recovery", I'm pretty sure this is what was causing it.

Good to know I don't have demons living with me!
