I just had a contractor install 2 PTAC Heat Pump units in a rental property. The cost was reasonable, but I'm not sold on the outside finish job -

Simply the sleeve sticking out of the wall with a stamped aluminum grill.

First, it looks ugly, and second, these are on exposed walls and I'm concerned about rain getting in. Is there an architectural shroud (or what do you call them?) I can buy and put overtop that will make the outside look better and improve the weather resistance? I've never seen hotel units look this plain and ugly.

Thanks,

Tim

Most likely you'd use wood (or whatever other exterior surface you've got) to trim it in, with proper weather sealing.

There are nicer grilles available for most brands. What kind are they?

The units we have are Amana

... to cover the entire outside unit.

I had seen the grills - the stamped aluminum one is on the units right now.

Thanks though!

Gotta be real careful on them not to recirculate air if you put something over them.
