If a heat loss hasn't been done... must do that first. 36M could be too much, 49M could be too little. What about a/c? Your contractor/installer must do the math first.

At a glance, it should be .... if all variables fit the picture. but who knows.
My house is only 5 1/2 yrs old and I have a friggin 5 ton system in it?
It works great but Im not sure if a load calc was done during construction or if they just winged it.
Returns were way undersized and I had to add. Trunk doesnt reduce at all which is a possible airflow velocity factor.
Lots of things can help or hurt efficiency of any unit.

Only manual J knows for sure

Load calculation must be performed in order to determine the proper size required for maximum efficiency and comfort. There are no shortcuts.

Now Irish, you didn't tell them about the easiest method of heat loss calcs.
You stand across the street from the house. Hold your hand in front of your face. The number of fingers it takes to cover the house is the number of burners you should have in your furnace.
::DD:::DD:
About as accurate as anything else out there except a Manual J!

lol..I never heard that one. What if you live on a 4 lane highway. Across the street is a far way. You do that, you may end up with 1/2 a burner.

The Man J is an analysis of how many btu's per hour your home loses. Simply put, whatever that loss is of a your home strictly determines the btu output of a unit needed so without a Man J performed to factor the btu loss of your home no one can really tell you anything.

he purchased a furnace himself...asked us if it was over sized..we all tell him it is...then he explains why it isn't.
