I had a new furnace installed last month (trane xc95m) with a clean effects filter. I was not happy with the workmanship of the install so I started reading the manuals just to check on the work.
Trane states that silicone should not be used or it will do something undesirable to the fuction of the clean effects unit.
My unit was coated in silicone.
I asked the installer about what I had read.
He told me that the silicone had dried before the unit was funtioning so it was a non-issue.
I have no reason to believe him but I guess it makes sense. Once the sealant dries it stops producing chemical vapor....

Does anyone have any information about this concern?

The concern is with the off gases reacting with the collection cell material. It's likely they used water based silicone, probably not much of a concern. 100% silicone is expensive and not necessary for typical applications.
