102.3 degrees. That is the screen temp of my plasma TV. Wonder how much a day that cost to run?
It is heating your house with 100% efficient electricity, or at least helping to heat it. (even though the generating plant operates at around 65%)
OR is it contributing to climate change (global warming)?
I forget which is which....

Yeah... Free heat, just don't watch any TV this summer and you'll be fine

I wish power plants were 65% efficient.
Unfortunately conventional plants are 30-40% and modern combined cycle* stations are 55% max.
*Gas turbine with heat in exhaust being recovered to create steam.

I used a amp clamp meter on a customer's big screen TV. He turned it on 6:00 AM & turned it off 10:00 PM. Liked to watch a political network on it. Left it on all day, even when no one was there. 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. It worked out to over $40.00 a month.
His pool pump was about $180.00 a month, 24/7. (No timer)
His electric bill was over $400.00 a month.
He is only employed part time.
Now he shuts his TV off except a few hours a night. And the pool pump is on a timer.
Amazing how many people leave a big screen TV on to give their dog "company" while they are away all day.

I've had 2 clients with the flat screen within a few inches of the stat. They couldn't figure out why the house was cold, but the stat was reading 76 degrees.

I was trying to AVERAGE wind power, water turbine, nuclear, gas fired steam, and coal fired steam generators.....
I have no real idea what the actual % is, I just KNOW it is NOT 100%.......

I believe there is a setting called cell brightness or something similar. You can adjust it down and it will lower the power consumption.

I keep three fifty inch plasmas around in case I run out of oil.

That wouldn't tell you anything. You need to measure the power with a power meter.

A clamp meter is useless for measuring power unless its part of a power meter. Measuring current and voltage using separate meters don't account for power factor.

btuh ratings on plasmas are proportionate to the type of show being watched. plasmas are like mod cons, put on a show with dark background, they run in low fire, but put on porn with bright lighting, they go to high fire. CNN is mid fire. the actual rating is four btuhs per square inch of screen size, give or take a half btu. in newer load calc software they can be added as loads.

What if the porn has low lighting?
Do the plasmas go on "high fire" because of the lighting or because of the porn?
I am soooo confused.......
