I have elecetd to take the NATE test in a few months.would like to take the oil and heat pump for two of my specialtys.Oil I am proficient in. Heat pump I am average on. Any body take the heat pump test yet.Like to get some insight. Was it changling and what should I focus on in preperation for the heat pump test?

I took it but cant tell you whats on it cuz they said to keep it a secret.
reallly though, it was a fair challenge. Basis stuff. R.V., refrigerant diag., circuits, amps, air flow etc.... a few calculations on crap youll never use or may have never seen.
I felt like it was more of a test on how to take a test.
On nearly every question there is an answer that is obviously wrong and a few which seem right. After re reading the question and answers, if you have basic skills, you'll find the one they are looking for.
I didnt study for it and made it through.

I have all the specialtys except oil(I dont want anybody
knowing I can do oil). Smart to take heat pump cause you
get a/c with it. I studied nate book but found I could
have passed without it but it was still good reading.
I would recommend you buy or barrow one if your heat pump
knowledge is lacking. It is alot of "textbook" questions.
You can take practice tests and get the book at nate.com
