Have a couple questions for ya guys. I'm in a building (country club clubhouse) with around 10 units, both split systems and package units, gas units and 1 electric strip unit. We've been going through the expense of changing out old honeywell mercury stats to programmable ones that we can either lock out the screens or lock them with a lock box.

My question for you guys is... What are your opinions on who gets access to either unlock the screens or keys for the boxes? My thought is that it is kind of a waste to go to the expense of securing them and then to turn around and give a bunch of people access to them. What are your thoughts?

Also, does anyone have the info on how much a certain temp change can affect utility cost?

IMHO, go to the Honeywell Vision Pro 8000 series - great bang for the buck, it will do everything you need it to, including narrowing the temperature settings to a real level if you so wish ( and still have the ' tenant ' able to adjust it a bit ).

Not affiliated with the Big H, just happy with the stats.

go with those vision pros, install a remote sensor and put all the stats in your office, then no one can mess with them.

I agree, lil bit more time on install since have to run an 2-wire for sensor.
But you can always lock out the screen and have the stat display an offset of the actual temperature +/- 1.5C hah

Good advice from Flange and Mikey - forgot to mention; if you run remote sensor(s) make sure they are a seperate pair of wires ( not in the same bundle as the rest ) - When I was FTC for Lennox for a while, that was one of the biggest ' intermittent ' problems - it does not have to be a shielded pair, it just has to be seperate from the rest - some strange cross talk can happen under the right circumstances.

I too like the Vision Pro stat. It also has a partially locked setting that will allow temp. changes but will not allow programming changes. I dont recall if you can limit the temp. adjustments but i think you can.

Right now I have a lennox comfortsense touchscreen for one of the stats and the rest we are putting in white rodgers programmable stats with lockboxes. we have the entire screen locked on the touchscreen so people cant bump the temp when they feel hot or cold.

My question was more along the lines of your opinions on WHO to give access to the stats to. Do you limit it to just the general manager and the maintenance guy, or do you start including in other management and hope they wont start bumping the stats when they feel hot or cold?

P.S. I love the comfortsense stat, the only thing I dont like about it is that it requires you to go into installer programming to lock and unlock the screen. The WR stats we're putting in also have a lock on them, but they too require installer programming, so we're putting lock boxes on them to make it easier and to eliminate the possibility of someone screwing the settings up in an attempt to lock/unlock the stat.

You will need to give the code to certain people that won't use the stats but must have it during off days and special functions.

General Manager (Must have all the codes)
Asst. General Manager (Must have all the codes)
Banquet Manager (Banquet Hall only)
Maitre d' (All restaurants and Banquet Halls)
Brista if you have a coffee shop (Only that shop)
Bartender (Men's Lounge/Bar/Card room only)
Facility Staff (all codes)

If you have a Tennis or Golf Shop, the Pro will need the access code for their area.

Make a separate access code for each purpose.

Office
Lobby
Banquet
Pro Shop #1
Pro Shot #2
Locker Rooms
Dining or Coffee Shop
Indoor recreation area(s)
Men's Lounge

What ever you do; do not give any to the Office Manager/Members or Wait staff.

btw...

Notice I did not mention the kitchen... never give a lock code to kitchen staff or management. Set them on auto change over, fan on, 74 high/68 low and let it rip.
