Right now Im strongly considering purchasing this book by the end of today.

http://www.amazon.com/Refrigeration-Conditioning-Technology-Bill-Whitman/dp/1428319360/ref=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

If anyone has any other recommendations on any other book I should read or can give any positive feedback on this particlar book I would be open to hearing them. I only plan on purchasing one book for now.

I'm till very green, Im familiar with the basic refrigeration cycle and the componments within that cylcle but I would like to begin understanding wiring diagrams and how controls work.

Thanks in advance.

one book wont make you a great tech, you will need a library. get modern refrigeration and air conditioning, and grow from there as you can. one

If you get a chance read "Lone Survivor". Nothing to do with HVAC but is a great book.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I ended up not purchasing the book i linked to in my initial post (although I may still buy it in the future), from the reviews it seems like this book covers the basics, which isnt a problem, but I feel as though I already have a sufficient amount of reading material covering the basics to hold me over. Instead I got a book (used) covering both the basics of electricity and controls. Keeping my hopes up that its in good condition.

Read the manuals that are available on this site, there are tons of them! I may be considered a junkie, but I'll read a manual for the fun of it.

The review on Amazon doesn't make it sound like a very worthwhile book....

in all seriousness, read everything here...a lot of it is wrong...a lot of it is right and a lot of it is absolutely brilliant! in time you will figure it out.

as for reading, read IOM's...they have a lot of good info.

and do what i like to do, pick something. a few years ago, i picked water flow. i then studied the internet until i found some great websites and just learned everything i could.

then i picked discharge superheat. i studied and tested compressors in the field. then i picked airflow (because of these bone heads on this website). i am still working on this one (turns out some of these bone heads are pretty smart). just study the crap out of any idea you can think of...one at a time.

Max!! I thought I was the only one who felt that way about Dr. Suess.

I wonder if he used to do that rapper thing with his hands when he made up those books.:rules:
