Some thermostats have an option to extend the fan operation time after the heater or air conditioner has turned off. What is the benefit of using this option?

Heating: to try to get additional heat fron the heat exchanger, however the air will be cooler with a longer end of call time.
Air Conditioning: to "try" to get a lil more cool air, however< the evaporator coil is wet (from de humidifing your home) so you actually take the humidity out and throw some back in after your condensor ends it's call for cooling.
