My hot air furnace seems to be sooting up my house. It is serviced every year and have never had this problem.
I am getting black soot on the walls and everything that is plastic.
How can the combustion air be getting in my house
Would I have to have a cracked heat exchanger for this to happen.

May not be your furnace. Do you burn a lot of candles?
Just in case turn appliance off, leave your house and call a contractor out to inspect your furnace. If you run it like it is and it is the problem you are putting you and your family at risk.

My wife does burn some candles. never seemed to be a problem, the only differance is she is using one now that she bought about 1 month ago that is a different brand. You think that could cause that much soot?
I stopped the candle burning a couple days ago and taped a piece of white paper over half of one othe registers in the floor and nothing is on the paper.
If it was the furnace it seems to me the paper would be black

Cheap candles. Imagine that candle reducing itself in size as it burns... where did it go? On the walls, ceiling floor and everything in between.

How old is your house? Have you done any remodeling? The soot is definitely not from your furnace!
